ST. PATRICKS WIN.

FOR WAR DS PR OMINENT. By the margin of 19 points to 12, St. Patrick’s beat Old Boys in a game in which the green forwards dominated the play for the greater part of the second spell. The teams were:— Old Boys.—Buick, Barraud, Howell, Davidson, Lang, Bright, Shand, Webber, Lowin, Kay, Annear (2). O’Dea, Grammar, Cutler. St. Patrick’s.—Stuart, Simmonds, Cuff, Millar, Muir, Fitzpatrick, Edlin, Webb, O’Donnell, Powell; Ross, Sliukker, Whiteman, Madgwick, Fitzpatrick. Shortly after the commencement Powell kicked a penalty goal for St. Patrick’s. The green forwards carried play to Old Boys’ territory, where a long run down the side-lino by Howell relieved the position. A long kick by Buick caught Stuart out of position and the latter was caught in possession when he tried to clear. From a melee which resulted O’Dea dived over to score. The kick missed. The black for-: wards took charge for- a short period and Stuart again fumbled in a dangerous position. Lewiii picked up the leather and dived over, but the major points were not added. From a fine forward passing movement, in which O’Dea was prominent, Davidson went over iii the corner. The full-backs of both sides were not playing up to form and as a result of not taking the ball on the full Buick was caught in possession and Shukker scored. Powell added the extra points. Soon after tlie commencement of the second half, St. Patrick’s started to dominate the piny. The Old Roys’ backs were continually called upon to clear, but offside play by the green players nullified many good movements. Cutler carried the hall to the St. Patrick’s line, where Lang picked up and dived over to score. The kick missed. Cutler collided with Stuart and received a broken nose, McAlister replacing him. Play was returned to the other end of the field, where Edlin. working the blind-side,sent Simmonds over to make the score 12—11 in the blacks favour. A weak clearing-kick by Howell gave Simmonds another chance to score under the posts, which he did, and Edlin added the extra points. Shortlv before the call of time, the former added yet another try to

his total when he .dived over from a ruck. The final whistle sounded shortly afterwards, the score-being: St. Patrick’s 19, Old Boys 12. Mr J. Burgess carried the whistle.
