LOSERS’ LATE EFFORT. Running up a score of 11 —3 at just over halt-time, United held off Air Force efforts and finished winners of the match by 11 points to 9. The teams were: United.—Robertson, Hyde, Canipbell, Alsop, Ryder, Hill, Bradley, Luxntoore, Adamson, Edwards, Dustin, Ward, Aruott, Pike, Rowlands. Air Force.- —Trotter, Rowland, Black, Steel, Sargissou, Younghusbana, Dew, Hanna,’Hose, Burke, Knights, Drummond, Mclntyre, Spence, Morgan. United drew first blood when G. Arnott came from a scramble to score after the backs had worked upfield, Robertson, Hill and Ryder being prominent. Ward’s kick failed. Air Force equalised when Steel followed up a well-placed kick, gathered the ball in. and went past the full-back from outside the United twenty-five to score. Rowland’s kick missed. United used their forwards well . and Hill eventually fought his way over the line and converted his own try. Sargissou broke right out hut gave a bad pass to Rowland. Half-time followed. On , the resumption. United went through io the Air Force line- and Arnott again scored after securing in the loose and swerving through the opposition. Ward could not convert from well out. Air Force, threw their backs at file defence in desperate assaults and, although United fought back hard. Rowland reached the line in the corner after one of these efforts. Younghnsband’s kick missed. Air Force nearly repeated the performance .and then Horgan put over a penalty kick. The final score was: United .11, Air Force 9. The referee was Mr M. - Bailey.
