“LOVERS’ LEAP.”
DRESSING IN REPERTORY PLAY. Striking a cheerful note in these uncertain tunes, “Lovers’ Leap,” Philip Johnson’s three-aet comedy which lias been chosen by the Alanawatu Repertory Society for its first stage production of the 1940 season, has an unusually small cast. The burden of the action rests on four players, for whose parts the Repertory Society is fortunate in having such experienced and talented actors as AliSses Alavis Mortland and Babette Rodgers, Dr. Alvin de Berry and Air Graham Driver, with the production in the capable hands of Air F. Cousins. Air E. Davidson fills the small role of a butler. As Helen Storer, Aliss Mortland makes her first appearance in an afternoon frock of mushroom cloque featuring pin-tucking and hand-embroidered lace to tone. In this scene Aliss Rodgers (Sarah Traille) wears a navy fitting'suit buttoned to the throat with navy hat and accessories. A beautiful black frock of stiffened tulle with diamante ornamentation is Aliss Afortland’s choice for the evening, reminiscent of AHctoria.n style with strapless bodice and full skirt composed of throe deep frills. She wears brilliant earrings and bracelets and triple string of pearls. Aliss Rodgers appears in a sweet frock of white chiffon with pin-tucked bodice, the fully flared skirt having a bustle effect and pearl ornaments. In the final scene Miss Alortland’s tailored frock is of teal blue, with which slie wears pearls, Aliss Rodgers appearing in a navy skirt and twin set of rust jumper and cardigan. Deep jade velvet curtains are most effective against the biscuit walls of the living-room, which has modern furniture and a refectory table and beautiful countryside is seen through the wide landscape window in the background. Bowls of bronze and yellow chrvsanthemums add to the artistic effect.
