PALMERSTON NORTH CLUB. At the Awatapu links on Saturday the A and B grades will i>lay an L.G.U. round in conjunction with the Aotea-roa Cup and Coronation Medal round. GLEN OROUA INSTITUTE. On Wednesday Mrs Skeet presided at the seventn birthday meeting of j the Glen Oroua Women’s Institute. .Close on a hundred visitors and menij hers joined in the afternoon’s enter- | tainment. Apologies tor absence were i received from Air and Mrs H. J. LanI caster and Mrs R. Mudtord, old identities, who had been invited to attend, and Mesdames Milne and Lawlor. A I new member, Mrs Fuller, was enrolled. ! Four parcels have l>een sent to soldiers overseas, it was reported. The retiring president (Airs Wheeler), at the last meeting, was presented with a crystal dish in appreciation of her services during the last two years, for which she expressed thanks. Letters were received from past Taikorea members : thanking the Glen Oroua Institute for lan invitation to the birthday'; also I from ltongotea inviting members to the Rongotea Institute’s birthday. Airs Foster read the balance-sheet ior the euchre and dance held last month, showing good financial results. A vote of thanks was accorded Air Carter foi His help. At the next monthly meeting members will give one of their n nmber. Afiss Sadd, a kitchen tea. Al’sr Hamlin read a letter from the Fishborne Institute. A roll-call, the most useful article in the kitchen, caused amusement. The roll-call for I next month is: “AVhere I first met my husband.” Nora Bailey played a pianoforte solo and Airs N. Scott delighted all present with an Irish jig. Mrs Dafter. seur., of Rongotea. gave several items on her concertina and also accompanied a number of Glen Oroua school girls in some sweet singing. A special feature was a talk by Mrs Dafter on early days of Rongotea, when the district was in standing bush and had dray tracks instead of roads. Hearty applause was accorded Airs Dafter. Floral sprays were presented to elderly members and “old identity visitors. A competition was won by Airs Caverhill; lucky cup, ladies . Airs Dafter; gentlemen, Air J. Aludford. Taikorea. On the afternoon tea table was a large birthday cake made l>v Airs Skeet and iced by Airs AValshe. The oldest member. Mrs Boswell, senr lit the seven candles and the youngest member. Miss M. Vallender, blew them out. Airs J. Aludford. of Tajkorea one of the oldest identities of the district, cut the first slice nnd*was also helped bv Airs Caverhill (a federation member) Mrs Davis (president, AVJKF.U.), Airs McKay (president, Rongotea Women’s Institute) and Airs Beard (Rangiotu Women’s Institute).
