SICK AND WOUNDED FUND.

At a meeting, on Monday, of the Palmerston North joint committee which is to launch locally the appeal;;* lor the Sick and "Wounded Fund on behalf of the Order of St. John and the Red Cross Society, the chairman (Mr G. Tremainej referred to the circular issued by the secretary of the Wellington Clothing Trades Union regarding subscriptions to patriotic funds. -Mr .Tremaine said he was certain that the Labour Party did not agree with the contents of the circular, but would willingly assist in the appeal for such funds. The speaker had received a letter from the local, branch of the Labour Party, conveying the following resolution, which had been carried unanimously: “That ■: this branch of the Labour Party pledges its unanimous support to the = Red Cross Appeal, and that its members will do all in their power to assist in the raising of funds.” The chairman said ho had also re- ?-■ ceived a letter from the Palmerston North Iwbour Representation Commit- .( toe advising that the following resolution had been unanimously adopted : “That this committee pledges its full support to the forthcoming appeal in J aid of the Sick and Wounded Fund and offers its full co-operation to the central committee in its efforts to \ raise the quota for this district.” Messrs W. C. Caution and Y. A. Christensen were appointed the official representatives of the Labour organisations* on the local committee. Mr Tremaine also said that Mr Christensen was taking an active part in the distribution of staff lists in ffind around Palmerston North, and he commented that this further refuted the suggestion that the circular had l>een issued with the authority of the Labour , Party. The Labour Party members ' were also taking an active part in the appeal.
