HOKOWHENUA.

(From Our OwnC'orrespondent.) OTAKI, May 7. Mr S. K. Siddells, Mayor of Pahiatua, who has been the guest of Mr and Mrs Alf Atkins, Manakau. has returned home. Mr and Mrs J. Mathie left on Saturday to take up their residence in Wellington. Mr. N. Gordon had the misfortune, on Saturday, while playing football, to have a bone in his band broken. A number of bowlers and friends recently entertained Mr F. Southgate and presented him with a bowler’s bag. Reference was made to the faithful services rendered the club by Mr Southgate, and regret expressed at liis departure. The duck shooting season, which opened on Saturday, has so far proved a good one for sportsmen, some splendid bags being secured. Leaving the road at the bend south of Manakau Stream bridge, last evening, a car driven by Mr W. H. Reynolds, of Otaki, who was accompanied by his wife, suffered damages. Neither of the occupants wak injured.
