Fergusson. L. Miller and 11. Jones. Mrs F. Brett presided at the April meeting of the Halcombe-Kakariki branch of the W.D.F.U. A letter of thanks was forwarded to the secretary of the Ila 1comhc Womon's Institute for its birthday invitation. The president, secretary and other members of the W.D.F.U. attended the function, which was vory enjoyable. It was proposed to deposit £lO to the provincial fund, and it was decided to hold an evening party for Miss V. Blunden, who is shortly to bo married. The branch combined with the junior division of the Farmers’ Union and Young I 1 armers’ Club will take part. The conipeti* tion for last month resulted: Mrs Mclsae I, Mrs Brett 2. The roll-call for next month is “First-Aid Hints.” competition, socks for soldiers, grey wool to be used. The president called on Mrs E. W. Barnett to accept a silver sugar bowl as a token of the esteem in which she is held and for her services as president. Mrs Barnett thanked members and said she enjoyed working amongst them, but o\\ing to unforeseen circumstances she was unable to carry on. The hostesses for May will be Mcsdamcs A. Schaeren and C. Abbiss. , Mrs A. E. Prior presided over a meeting of the Tokorangi branch of the Women’s Institute. The institute prayer was followed by a short silence us a mark of respect for the late lit. don. M. J. Savage, and also for the late Air D. Warner, a former headmaster of the Tokorangi School. Miss M. \Vernham gave a short talk about the Exhibition end other members described their impressions. Mrs Prior demonstrated d oyley cases. . The Tokorangi householders meeting was presided over by Mr E. W. Barnett. The esteem in which the late Mr D. Warner (a foimer headmaster) was held was commented upon by the chairman and as a mark of respect members stood in silence. Congratulations were extended to the teachers and children for again recoiving an endorsed environment ceitiii* cate. The following committee was elected:—Messrs J. L. Fergusson (chairman), A. E. Prior (secretary and treasurer), J. Mills, J Lower, and K. Gunderson. Ml R. Iwikau was co-opted as representative of the Maori people. Acting on behalf of the Halcombe branch of the 11.5. A., Mr A. E. Prior addressed the Tokorangi School children on the significance of. Anzac Day. Mr and Mrs E. W. Cowdrey and Mr F. Cowdrey are visiting Tauranga. Miss M. Clapham has returned from Wellington. Miss B. Key, of Wanganui, has been the guest of Mrs K. C. Andorson. Mr and Mrs F. Pleasants, of Maticre, have been visiting Mr J. lieappy. Mrs Gooding, of Taranaki, has been staying with Mr and Mrs P. Rasmussen. Mr G. Nicol is visiting Wellington. Mr A. Lord, of the local Post Office, firs received notice of his transfer to Apiti. Miss F. McLaren, of Niroaha, has been the guest of Mrs IC. Anderson. Miss J. Cattanach, |of Palmerston North, and Mr T. White*, of Wanganui, were recent guests of Mr and Airs A. E. Prior, Tokorangi. Airs I. Johnson, of Miramar, Wellington, has been the guest of Alr9 N. Blunden, Kakariki. Aliss M. Anderson has left for a cruise round the South Sea Islands. The draw for next week’s ladies golf competition is: Airs D. Alanagh and Mrs Nairn, Airs L. Fergusson and Mrs L Davies, Mrs R. Alanagh and Airs E. Cowdrey, Airs R. llentoul and Aliss B.
