DISMISSAL OF MEN.
UN JON MEMBERS PROTEST. The following resolution was carried at a meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the (tenoral Labourers Union recently and forwarded to Mr P. M. Butler, national secretary of the union:—. / “That tin's meeting of the General Labourers’ Union at Palmerston North wishes to express an emphatic protest against the action of the Minister of Public Works (Hon. R. Semple) in exceeding his authority by dismissing the men engaged on the Bunvood golf course job, and support secretary (Mr Butler) in bis demand 'for a full inquiry.” A note was attached in the letter,' forwarded to Mr Butler, that the meeting was of the opinion that Mr Semple, by his action at Bunvood and at ldaast Pass, was discrediting the whole Labour movement.
The following resolution was carried at a meeting of the Manawatu Labour Representation Committee and forwarded to Mr E. J- Bowater, as the district representative of the General Labourers’ Union, the meeting having been held at Longburn on April 27: “That this representative meeting of the Manawatu Labour Representation Committee, after a full discussion, desire to express our protest against the action of ihe Minister of Public Works in dismissing the men engaged on the Burwood golf course job, without a full enquiry concerning the whole job, and supports the demand of the Federation of Labour for a full enquiry.” Resolutions on the same lines, in relation to the Burwood golf course job incident, have been carried by the Feikling and Levin branches of the General Labourers’ Union and have been forwarded to the national secretary of the union.
