(From Our Own Correspondent.) STANWAY, May 3. There was a very pleasing attendance at the May meeting ‘of the Stanway Women s Institute, held on Wednesday. Miss MV Cl ere presided. It was decided to send a delegate to the biennial conference of the federation in Wellington ancl Miss Clere was proposed to act. It was further decided to hold a dance in the hall to raise funds. Mr J. Parsons _is to be asked to act as M.C., the prizes for novelt ydanees were donated by various members. Miss Clere gave an account of the meeting of the Oroua Federation, lately held, at which Miss Clere and Mrs Lect were A proposal was made by Mrs M. Winder that all money received from the stalls no handed over to the institute instead of-the usual practice. The “golden thread talk was given by Miss A. Craine, who spoke on a trip she had taken through the Continent some years ago. She described places of interest in Paris, Switzerland and Italy. The hostesses were: Mesdames B. Short. J. Parsons and Misses R. Marshall and F. Marshall, ihe winners of the competitions were: Bloom, Mrs R. Coclcburn 1, Mias M. Clere 2; cooking (ginger cake), Mrs J. Macfarlane 1. Mrs W. Harvey 2; peg bag, Mrs T/ Cole 1, Mrs M. Loot 2. The hostesses to next month’s meeting will be: Mesdames J. Whitehead, L. Cole, A. Callingham, and Miss D. • Callinghatn and the competitions will be: Best, bloom, cooking (apple turnover) and knitted bed S °A 'pleasant afternoon was spent at the home of Mrs R. C. Hamilton, , when Mrs W. Harvey convened a meeting of Ihe drama circle. Also present were: Mesdames R. Hamilton. A. Marsha l and Misses M. Clere, R. Marshall, N. Jefferies, J. Groves and J. Rosser. Arrangements were made for the June piogranune, which will take the form of a social afternoon conducted by the circle. A play was selected and the parts allott6Miss Davenport, of Palmerston North, is spending the week-end as the guest of Mr and Mrs T. Miles. Mr R. A. Robbie, agricultural instructor of the Wanganui Education Board, visited the school on Wednesday. Miss Grace Marshall is staying in Palmerston North for the competitions. Miss Joan Smith, of Palmerston North, is Ihe guest of Mr and Mrs J. Macfarlane. Mr R. Batchelor, ot Kaknriki, is the guest of Mr and Mrs T. Miles. Mr and Mrß Carpenter have left for a trip to the Waikato. Miss Betty Miles is the guc,st of Mrs A. Marshall. Mr F. Cowdrey is at present m fauranga, where his brother, Mr D. Cowdrey is seriously ill. Mrs F. Cowdrey and Miss Beverley Cowdrey are spending the holidays in Taumarunui. Mrs Schmidt, of Taranaki, is the guest of Mr and Mrs P. Sterne Miss Marie Mitchell is to spend part of the holidays in Rongotea. Mr and Mrs M. C. Loet are spending the •rchool holidays in the Waikato and Auckland.
