TROPHY PRESENTED.
TAKARO GARDEN COMPETITION. The Jamieson Cup, a trophy donated for gardens in the Takaro area, was presented at the annual meeting of the Takaro Progressive Association on Monday. The trophy was given by Mr P. T. Jamieson, a member of the committee, to encourage tidiness in surroundings, and the gardens were judged as seen from the street. “We. congratulate the district on having so many householders who devote so much time and labour in beautifying their surroundings,” said a letter received from Mr J. Galland, who, with Mrs Galland, judged the gardens. “As we were to judge from the position of a passer-by. many gardens were handicapped by having hedges and shrubs .which prevented a clear view. In judging, the chief points we had in mind were the lawn, flowers and general view.” Mr S. J. A. Busst, of 26 Bryant Street, was awarded first prize and Mr V. Goldfinch, of 36 Kingswood Street, was second. The president (Mr E. 11. Smith) presented tho trophy to Mr Busst, and congratulated him on his success.
