TE ARAKURA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) 'I’M ARAKUKA, April 26. At tlie Tc Arakura householders’ meeting a large number of residents were present. Mr J. J. Hume (chairman) expressed great pleasure at seeing such a large gathering, which showed that a great deal of interest was taken. Expressions of thanks were extended to (he outgoing committee for their interest in the school affairs. Mr P. Hansen (chairman) s|toke of the outstanding work done by the chairman (Mr Hume) during the eleven years he has held the office. All the work he had clone in (he interest of ihc school and district was worthy of recording and the district would have a great task to find a chairman who would devote such energy. 'These remarks were endorsed by several members of the committee. Mr Hume spoke of the valuable services rendered by the secretary and treasurer (Mr D. Johnston) and also the other members of Ihe committee, Messrs B. Burnham, R. Stewart and G. Firth, who were most energetic workers. He expressed appreciation of the splendid eo-o|>eratioii given by residents. Mr Hume, Mr Johnston and Mr Stewart consented to lie nominated for the committee while the other member did not wish to stand. The election resulted: Messrs J. J. Hume, D. Johnston. K. Stewart, G. Sanno, and _ C. Avery. The chairman’s report stated, inter alia: “The co-operation of the Parents’ Association and the parents of the district has been all that could ho desired. One new tank was provided, a new wood shed and a new bicycle Hied were erected during the year. A visit was made to the school by the Minister of Education in connection with providing a teacher’s residence and this was received very favourably by liirit. A section of one-fifth of an acre has, been olfered by Mr N. Pedersen on most generous terms, and thanks are due to hint. Unfortunately, the usual ball was not bold last, year. A social and prize-giving was held at the breaking-up at which Mr Tenlient presented the prizes The school was represented at the sports at Feilding. The ealf judging and a general display of work carried out at the school included cooking, floral work, handwork, clc., with outstanding success. The agricultural section, unfortunately, showed a falling off a little. The interest and kindness displayed bv the teachers in their work amongst the children arc worthy of appreciation. Thanks are due to. Mr and Mrs F. Carr for the excellent manner in which they have carried out their duties as eaieiakcis.
