ASHHURST.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) ASTI HURST, April 27. The Anzac Day celebrations wore of a much more subdued nature this year, opening with a parade of returned soldiers, Legion of Frontiersmen,, the local children’s branch of the Rod Cross Society, and school children, led by flic Alanawatu Pipe Band, who marched from the Parish Hail im the main street and then to the Public Ilall. where the ceremony was held. The service commenced witli the National Anthem, followed by a hymn. Rev. A. J. Farnoll read the Scripture. The New Zealand anthem was followed by the Apostles’ Creed. Lord's Prayer, and prayers for tho fighting services and for the peace of tho nations. Aliss Betty Murphy recited a poem. The address was given by Alajor Afowett, of Palmerston North, who stated that history was repeating itself. .The sous and relatives of the Anznes were training in the same lands where 25 years ago the Anznes wore. but. with the Turks as Allies. Instead of peace, the genius of Alankind had again turned to war. and it. meant that Britain and France either had to take up arms or accept the same fate as Czechoslovakia and Poland. The success cf tile Anzac? had been their faith in themselves, their Empire, and country. The Pipe Band played 11 10 lament “Flowers of the Forest” while the wreaths from larious organisations were placed on the platform. Bugler AloKano sounded the “Last Post” and ‘■Reveille.” I
