RUGBY UNION.

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS The weekly meeting of the management committee of the Manawatu Rugby Union was held on Tuesday, Mr A. M. Ongley presiding. Also present lvcre Messrs J. Eagle, B. Palmer, F. E. Sherwood, R. Gillespie, J. R. Hardie, P. O. Skoglund, K. W. Eglinton, H. R- Crawlord, H. Hands, R Merritt, E. Clcvely and W. Gleeson. The Primary Schools’ Rugby Association advised that Mr Merritt had been appointed its representative pro tern, and the chairman extended a welcome to Mr Merritt. Mr H. F. Gibbons wrote accepting the office of patron. In connection with the secondary schools’ tournament for the Monscar Cup, to be held in Palmerston North in August, the chairman reported that the schools which had taken part last year would again participate. It was decided that Saturday and Monday, August 17 and 19, he the dates. Arising out of a request from the Manawatu A. and P. Association, permission was given for the following matches at the Winter Show; Wednesdav, June 12, Tc Aute College v. Palmerston North Boys’ High School; June 13, Ohakea v. Wernroa, Air Force teams; June 15. Manawatu v. Wanganui, representative match. Halcombe juniors were granted yellow and black as their colours. With the possibility of the Showgrounds being available on May 4, it was decided to postpone the opening of the season from April 27 till then. Clubs were granted permission to play practice games on Saturday. A request from tile Bunnythorpe Club that all games in which it was concerned should commence not later than 2 p.m., owing to the distance tiiat its players had to travel, was referred to the fixtures committee. It was decided that two senior fixtures be played on the oval each Saturday. Arrangements arc to he made for the screening before individual clubs of a film produced by the Auckland Union. This film, dealing with the finer points of Rugby, was shown at the close of the meeting.
