ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
LIBERATION OF PHEASANTS. The Palmerston North branch of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society met this week, Xlr E. G. Xlattliews presiding. The chairman, commenting on a decision reported from a meeting of the Wellington society, said that once regulations had been gazetted societies had no, power to reduce the fees ior licenses of soldiers on active service. If an application was afterwards made by the holder for a reduction in the license foe this could be granted. The allocation of pheasants reared at the game farm for liberation in the XYellington society’s area was reported to he 300, of which 50 were allotted to Palmerston North, 20 to the Tokomaru-Shannon area and 30 to Feilding. The chairman said that as far as the allocation was eoncerned Palmerston North had nothing to complain about, but he had taken up seriously the matter of tlie size of tlie allocation not being advised before the birds were liberated. He had received an apology about this, it being said that it was necessary to lil>erate- the birds in a hurrv. It was necessary 1o know the allocation beforehand so that suitable arrangements could be made.
