The annual report of the medical superintendent of the Palmerston North Hospital (Mr J. 11. North) on the Maternity Home, shows that the total numlier of patients admitted during the past year was 267; the total number of patients discharged, 265; the total number of ante-natal clinic attendances, 786; and the daily average occupied bed rate, 9.63. The figures lor the Maternity Home are lenver than for the past few years. It is interesting to note that the admissions during the first six months of the year were 149; during the second six months they were 118. There was a marked rise in the number of hookings on the introduction of maternity benefits applying to hospital treatment. This was followed by a falling off in the bookings when the complete maternity service including medical attendance was introduced in Octobei.
