FOXTON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, April 16. Mrs K. TT. Dustin, of Wanganui, is die guest of her son and daughter-in-law. Mr and Mrs C. Dustin Miss Elsie Titeonibe. of Cook Street, is spending a holiday in Auckland, where she is flic guest of Dir and Mrs W. Titeonibe. Mr and Mrs D. R. Ogilvy, of Purcell Street, are visiting Tc j Puke. Mr K. Field, of Norbiton Road, is ar present in Wellington, where he is presiding over a conference of the New Zealand Beekeepers’ Association. On Saturday evening a large number of young people joined with Mr and Mrs 10. Saveli, of Flitter Street, in celebrating the eoming-of-age of their daughter. Miss Olga Saveli. At a meeting of the Foxton Basketball Club it was decided to affiliate with tile Kawau Association. At the official closing of the' 1939-1940 season of the Foxton Tennis Chib the finals of the women’s and men’s championship singles were played and resulted as follow: Women’s singles. Miss 10. Francis beat Miss M. Thymic, 6 —4, 6—4: men's, singles. J. L. Thomas heat A. Anderson, 6 —2, 6—3. The Mayor (Mr M. 10. Rerrcau), who is patron of the club, and Mrs Rerrcau were present, and Dir J. L. Thomas (club captain) called on Air Rerrcau to present the trophies to the successful competitors. Dir Thomas, oil behalf of the club members, made a presentation to Air A. Martin in honour of his marriage. Playing on Easton Park on Saturday afternoon in the first Rugby match of the season, Shannon seniors beat Foxton seniors by 6 points to 3. At the animal meeting of the Foxton Returned Soldiers’ Association the report staled that, there were 53 members and £22 bad been received in grants. The election of officers resulted in the old committee being re-elected with the addition of five new members. A letter was received from Caplain Nciisou, X.Z.S.C., intimating that lie had been going into the question of opening up a recruiting depot in Foxton. It was decided to do what was possible to assist and to make inquiries for a suitable shop in Main Street. A tournament was played on the local bowling green on Saturday afternoon when three rinks from Shannon visited Foxton. The tournament resulted in a win for a Foxton rink, G. Scnddcn, J. Ale Knight, R. Robinson and W. Trueman (skip).
