PROGRESS OF GAME. WELLINGTON, April 13. "I think last year was a goutl year for Association football in New Zealand,” said Mr F. Sanders, in moving flic adoption of the annual report at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Football Association. “If we have anything like as good a year this year we shall ho lucky,” he added. There could bo no thought of any visits by overseas teams while the war lasted. Regarding the Chatham Cup. sain Mr Sanders, the association had had a good year, and lor the first time for some years the competition had come out on tho right side financially. Tin’s was largely because there had been a Wellington team in the final and also a good gate. “Whether we shall run the Chatham Cup this year is in the lap of the gods,” added Air Sanders. There might he some difficulty this year in obtaining footballs from England, continued Mr Sanders. A requisition had been put in, but the application might not be successful. There were still a few footballs left, and, if others could l>e made, hoys’ football, in New Zealand would not suffer. Seconding the adoption of the report, Air AV. IJ. Hicks said that in liis opinion the highlights of the report were the matters dealing with the secondary schools. It was pleasing to see that ten out of tho 16 affiliated associations had secondary schools’ competitions under their control. Regarding the primary schools, there was onlv one association, in the far north, which had no primary school teams.
