RONGOTEA
(From Our Correspondent.) RONGOTEA, April 10. When performers of known merit are. billed to appear on the concert platform, the event rarely fails to draw a crowded house, and the effort of the local R.S.A. to provide good entertainment and at, the same time assist the Rongotea, candidate (Miss Erie Bcrkalm) in the queen carnival contest, was imost successful. Musicians and entertainers from Palmerston North, assisted by local friends met with a most enthusiastic reception in the Coronation Hall on Monday evening, Mr W. A. Churchill acting as announcer. Miss Berkaltn, who wore a lovely gown of mauve chiffon, was warmly applauded for her singing. Others who contributed items were: Miss Jean Gennills, Mrs R. Aird, Mr R. Algar, Miss Freda Whittaker, Miss Jeanelte Scott, Mesdames Riddell and Whitehead. Messrs John Brown, R. Walden. G. Dawson and L. Wood. Mrs Churchill acted as aceompaniste. Air and Mrs K. Collinson assisted to convey the performers from Palmerston North and hack. At the quarterly meeting of officials of the Sanson-Rongotea circuit. Rev. G. M. Roberts presided. Air Roberts made, feel--1 ing reference to the death oF Mrs E. F. Sanson, the oldest local member, who in the ilay3 of her health and vigour contributed largely to the life and work of the Church and was for many years organist in the Rongotea Church. The death of a former resident of Sanson, Air John Anderson, was referred to by Air 11. R. Masters, who stated that the deceased gentleman had served the Church as local preacher, butiday school superintendent, and in various other offices, during his residence at Sanson. It was decided ttiat a full record he entered in the minutes of the services rendered by ! these two late members, and that letters of '“■yinpathy ho sent to the relatives. ihe ineilibers present stood in silence out of respect. 'llto report and balance-sheet lor the quarter were presented by Mr K. C. Print, there being a credit balance of £27 5s 3d on the quarter’s work. The Sunday schools at Taikorca and Sanson were reported to be active and doing good work, .vitile at Rongotea there are 70 scholars and seven i teachers. The Bible class work in each ceti- \ tre is satisfactory. The action of the ltonjgotca trustees in opening a fund for the [erection of a Sunday school building, adjoining the church, was approved. 'lbis is |to be regarded as a Centennial memorial : project, and within a month of the list being opened £282 has been .subscribed. Airs Al. E. Smith reported on the proceedings of the recent conference at Dunedin. Several cases of illness were reported, and letters of sympathy are to he sent to Ales- , names J. print, IV. Johnston, L. Collis and Aliss Foster.
