RANGITIKEI
AIARTON, April 10. At the annual meeting of the Marton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, a shortage of housekeepers in the district was mentioned by members, and it, was stated that the shortage was not local, but general. The Marton branch could only assist in eight homes during the year, and an appeal was made to members to assist, in alleviating this scarcity. It was decided to appoint Alesdanics Willis and 11. Bailey delegates to the annual conference and Mrs F. J. Christensen Press correspondent. Dr R. A. Church presided over a meeting of Ihe District High School Committee. The resignation of Aliss I’. E. I’olers was received, and the Wanganui Education Board advised that Miss AL Dales had been appointed a relieving supernumerary teacher. The headmaster (Afr A. W. Tucker) reported that the roll number in the primary department was 316 and the average attendance was 289. In the secondary department the roll number was 128 and the average attendance 119. Dr Church, and Messrs T. C. Ward, If. Frederich. and J. If. Dashwood stated that they would not be seeking re-election at the meeting of householders. Air P. 11. Hall notified the committee of his intention to retire shortly. Air llall lias been on the staff for 18 years. A letter of appreciation is to be sent to him. At a meeting of the Marton Borough Council a petition was received from Air D. AT I’ieterson and others, asking the council to provide a footpath in Lyon Street. It was decided to refer this matter to the works committee for favourable consideration. An application for the use of the park and park lights for the football season was received from the Old Boys’ Football Club. —Granted. An application from the Rangitikei Hockey Association lor the use of the western side of the park for the hockey season was also granted. The Rangitikei Rugby Union were granted permission to use the eastern side of the park. MARTON. April 11. Airs D. S. McGregor presided at the annuul meeting of the Marton women’s section of the New Zealand National Party. A motion of sympathy was accorded Miss AL K. Simpson in her illness. The election of officers resulted:—President, Airs 11. R. Gaisford; vice-presidents. Alesdames E. B, Gordon, G. Lampp, T. Barton, E. G. G. Oliver, and Miss Awdry; secretary, Miss K. Simpson; committee, Mesdames A. Honcyman, A. Wing, D. Frederick, D. S. McGregor, B. Couper, F ,N. Dexter, J. Lawson and Misses Beckett and Cook, with power to add; delegates to Rangitikei Electorate Committee, Mrs 11. R, Gaisford, Miss G. C. Oliver, Misses Beckett and Cook; delegates to Wellington divisional committee, Mrs E. B. Gordon. Mr T. Barton addressed the meeting on organisation and matters in connection with the party.
