IMPORTS OF TEA.
SUPPLIES ASSURED. Per Press Association. ■WELLINGTON, April 12. Referring to the import licensing provisions for the J uly-I)ecember period, lion. W. Nash to-day said there appeared to be some misapprehension regarding tea. He understood a statement had appeared in a North Auckland newspaper to the effect that tea was now a prohibited import, whereas the only restriction announced with the fourth period licenses was in connection with an odd classification of tea specified as “tea, n.e.i.” Mr Nash said there had never been any reduction in the importation of tea. Indeed, every facility had been given by the Customs Department for the import of tea to the full quantity admitted prior to the import selection procedure. Stocks of tea in New Zealand were ample for consumers’ requirements, and further adequate supplies also fully assured.
