WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.

MANAWATU EXECUTIVE. The executive committee of the Manawatu Federation of Women’s Institutes met at Messrs Collinson and Cunninghamo’s, on Wednesday, Miss M. Grant presiding. Others present were Mesdames Waring Taylor and C. Easton (Shannon), A. D. Lynch (Linton), J. Symonds and E. Titcombe (Foxton), A. Brill (Tiritea), D. Scott (Aokauterc), W. Churchill, H. V. Caverhill and T. Collins, lion, secretary (Rongotea). Mrs F. McKay, voluntary organiser (Rongotea), was also present. Mrs Waring Taylor was noininated for the Dominion executive. Twenty nominations were received for the Manawatu executive, a recommendation going forward to reduce the number elected to nine. An invitation was conveyed to the 1 meeting for members to attend the annual meeting of the Oroua Federation in Feilding. The draft report and balance-sheet were approved and the position of the calendar fund was discussed, but final arrangements were left till the annual meeting. A statement of the expenses of the International Exhibition was received, the quota from the Manawatu and Oroua Federations being £5 Is. which is to be paid from the coordinating account, for which a statement was presented. 'l'bc chairman 1 hanked Mesdames Collins and Caverhill, secretary and treasurer, and the executive, Mrs Waring Taylor reciprocating. GLEN OROUA INSTITUTE. At the monthly meeting of Glen Oroua Institute Mrs W. Boswell (vice-president) took the chair in the absence of Mrs Skcet (president). Members stood for a brief •wmrl in silence out of respect to the late Prime Minister, and for one of the oldest members, the late Mrs J. Sanson. An invitation was received to the Rangiotu Institute's birthday afternoon. Poinls prizes won during the year were presented: Best bloom in the garden, Mrs Saunders; cooking, Mrs Lawlor; sewing, Mrs Vallandor Final arrangements were made for a euchre and dance gathering, particulars to be advertised The next meeting will be birthday afternoon and invitations are to he sent to old identities of the district, •dslor institutes and members of the old Taikorea Institute. Mrs Larsen gave a demonstration of making floral wreaths in very short time, and these when finished were much admired. A competition, floral wreaths, resulted: Mrs Walslic 1. Miss Joan Vallendcr 2, Mrs Vallcncler 3; date scones, Airs W. Fostei 1, Mrs Evans 2, Mrs Alilne 3; carrot, Airs Alilne 1, Mrs Davey 2, Airs J. Saunders 3. After tins judging of the wreaths these were placed on the Soldiers’ Alemoria! in the Glen Oroua School grounds. The hostesses were Mesdames Wheeler. Davov, Evans and Parlane. The competitions lor next month are three-minute sponge, machine-made print apron, and one beetroot. POIIANG'INA INSTITUTE. At a meeting of the Pobangina Institute Airs J. Moar presided and visitors from Alilson and Raugiwaliia were welcomed. Three new members, AJesdamcs Smart, \Y. Smart, and Mopliain, were enrolled, which most gratifving. as two members had left in the previous month. All were eager i t.u Iwgiu knitting for the soldiers, but so I Far members have been unable to procure 00l from Feilding. A knitting circle will be fomlcd in the near future. The “bring , and buy” stall is to be held monthly, in Hie charge of Mrs G. Drummond. Alcsdames Drummond and F. Wagstalf were elected delegates to the Oroua Federation comtci meeting. The secretary was asked to send a letter of sympathy to Mrs A. Blixt. a former member of tho institute, who is now til in hospital. Mrs Dyinock. of Milson, entertained the members with an interesting and comprehensive talk on her visit to j England, the Conference of the Associated Country Women of the World. The “bring and buy” stall did good business; eeerls will be donated to the Patriotic Fund. Five gift parcels for soldiers overseas have already been packed to send away. 'i he competition for a hasket of vegetables was well patronised, there being nine entries. Airs Dyinock and Airs Johnstone acted as judges and the results were; Airs L. Tews 1. Miss Ah Txlink 2. Airs Drummond 3. Pobangina correspondent.

EUNNYTI-lORPE INSTITUTE. A meeting of the Bunnythorpe Women’s Institute was presided over by Mrs Faulkner. Two delegates were appointed to. attend the annual council meeting at Foxton, and it was also decided tc send a delegate lo the annual meeting The election of officers resulted: Mrs Faulkner, president; Mesdamcs Jackson and Armstrong, vice-presidents ; Mrs Harris, secre-tary-treasurer ; committee, Mesdamcs Gundy, M. Donald, Entwistlc, Northcott, Wallace and Williamson and Miss Sinclair. Mrs Dymock gave a very interesting talk on the work of the Women's Institutes in England during the present time, and her travels while visiting there. She was accorded a vote of thanks. Baby Barrow was presented with a Women’s Institute money box, Competitions resulted : Bloom, Mrs Bicknell 1, Mrs Harris 2; chutney, Mrs R. Donald 1, Mrs Harris 2. The competitions for next month are to be: Best bloom, article from scraps of wool, and four plain scones. The hostesses will be Mesdamcs Gundy, Butler, Pickett and Meads.
