PIG COUNCIL.

WELLINGTON DISTRICT. A decision to hold over a discussion on the proposed increase in the pig levy was made at a meeting, yesterday, of the Wellington District I’ig Council. This question will bo dealt with at the next meeting, when a full discussion will be required to formulate future policy. Mr B. E. Iveiller presided. It was decided to reply to a letter from the Bay of Plenty council, asking for reasons for the decline of breeding sows in the Wellington district, that the decline was caused by the failure of the Government to act ujon the recommendations of the advisory committee which it had set up to go into the question of increased pig production because of the request of tlie Home Government that only baconer pigs be shipped. The report of the supervisor (Mr A. A. Johnson) said that as a result of the discussion and the resolutions carried at the last meeting about production trends, he had endeavoured to ascertain the reaction ol the farmers to the increase in the levy. The general feeling was against any move for an increase in the levy. The same three judges as for last year were appointed for the animal baconer competition.
