IMMENSE PROFITS.
TO BE MADE IN AUSTRALIA. SCOPE IN ± HEATRES. NEW YORK, Jan. 30. “The millennium of immense profits awaits Broadway jrroducers in Australia,” writes Warren Munsell, a member of the American Theatre Guild in the New York Times. “Supply versatile actors and recent Broadway plays, and the public, greedy for the theatre, will do the rest.” Because of New York ignorance and London indifference the utter rout of the Australian theatre is impending, he says, and continues: “As I was unable to convince anyone that my nationality uia not automatically entitle me to a starring role in the theatrical world, I agreed to assist in certain productions. My debut was marred by the appearance of five police officers, constituting the censorship board, perspiring from the exertion of already banning one play and countless books that week. They voted the play immoral by three votes to two. “Australian producers are giving overmuch attention to revivals and are afraid to risk funds on the royalties of new plays.”
