HEAVY TAXATION
POSITION IN DOMINION. BANK CHAIRMAN’S VIEWS. “ALTOGETHER CRIPPLING.” (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received February 1, 10.25 a.m. LONDON, Jan. 31. Sir John Davidson, chairman of directors, at the centenary meeting of the Union Bank of Australia, referred to Australian taxation as very heavy and that of New Zealand as altogether crippling. He attributed the general activity and prosperity of New Zealand largely to good oversea prices for primary products and the larger sums the Government was expending on public works and social services. A situation involving difficulty might arise if overseas prices appreciably dropped, added Sir John.
