STORMY WEATHER.

CONDITIONS IN SYDNEY. SYDNEY, Jan. 31. Stormy conditions, accompanied by torrential rain, have prevailed in the metropolitan area for 24 hours, with no sign of ending. The rainfall of six inches so far is the highest one-day registration for 20 years, doing enormous damage m the city, suburbs and outlying areas. It disorganised traffic and carried away 300 yards of railway at Blacktown. Flooding is reported in some suburbs. Scores of householders have had to be rescued. Water poured in cascades into the basements of some city buildings.. The New Zealand women’s cricketers’ match against the New South Wales combined country team has been postponed, as have the bowling fixtures. The promising Pantheon gelding Valpan was struck dead by lightning.
