SYDNEY CARNIVAL.
BRILLIANT SCENE ON HARBOUR. SYDNEY, Jan. 30. The most brilliant and picturesque function in connection with the celebrations was the Venetian carnival, held on the harbour on Saturday night. The night was pleasantly warm, moonless, and ideally suited to the display of brilliantly-coloured fireworks and searchlights from the many warships in port. All harbour vantage-points were thronged with people and many ferries carried spectators round the harbour to view the fascinating decorations. The principal event of the celebrations to-day was the great military review at Centennial Park, 6500 men of all arms participating. The march-past was taken by Lord Gowrie (GovernorGeneral). Among those at the official stand were Lord Galway and the State Governors.
