FACTORY EXPLOSION.

PANIC IN AYRSHIRE. LONDON. Jan. 27. The explosion in the gelatinemixing shed at the Nobel works at Ardeer, Ayrshire, which killed six people, was marked by two reports, 10 minutes apart, which wrecked the mixing-house in the blasting department, demolished the magazine, blew out windows three miles away, shook houses 15 miles distant, and caused a panic in the district. Twelve persons were injured, not seriously, in addition to the death-roll. The second explosion, in which a woman who escaped the first was killed, flung a huge sheet of flame above the skyline. This was followed by dense clouds of smoke, but no buildings subsequently caught fire. Families anxiously greeted crowds of girls streaming from the gates after the • disaster.
