RAM PRICES LOWER.
HAWKE’S BAY FAIR. Per Press Association. HASTINGS, Jan. 27. The annual ram fair which opened at Hastings this morning met .with anything hut bright selling, values being from 3gns to 4gns down on those realised at last year’s fair. The offering consisted of 3000 Romneys and included entries from wellknown breeders in Wairarapa, Manawatu, and Fcilding districts. Some entries bred in the South Island were also on offer. Except for a small percentage of pens showing breeding the quality of the offering was disappointing, being much below the standard of last season’s fair. Breed, character and type were not at all well featured.
The highest price obtained over the first 200 lots was lljgns, for a pen of six oneehcar, bred by and offered on account of Mr W. H. Henson, the well-known breeder, of Feilding. The purchaser was Mr H. D. Hardy, of Tikokino. Mr Hardy also purchased a further pen on account of the game breeder at 11 guineas. The highest price was 13grns, for a pen of 4 1-shear, offered on account of Mr H. Stewart, “Waiafa,” Feilding, the purchaser being Mr Ben Gray, of Onga Onga.
