THE WOOL CHEQUE.
REALISATIONS AT WELLINGTON. OFFICIAL COMPILATION. WELLINGTON. Jan. 28. The wool cheque for the second Wellington sale of tliis season, held on January 10, totalled £404,536 4s 4d, which is over £340,000 below the return from the January sale of the 1936-37 season, but higher than that of the 1935-36 season January sale. The official results of this month’s sale, compiled by the Wellington Wool Brokers’ Association, are as follow: Bales offered 28,377

Average per lb 10.8 c., At the January sale last year 30,724 bales wore offered, of which 30,699 bales wore sold, and 25 bales passed in. The total gross realisation was £746,007 9s lid, the average price per bale £24 6s, and the average per lb. 16.313 d. The two sales held in Wellington so far this season have realised a total of £688,463, compared with £1,396,670 for the De-cember-January sales of last season, £725,501 for the 1935-36 season, and £333,601 for the 1934-35 season.
The gross proceeds (shillings and pence omitted) of the wool sold at the January sales at Wellington for the last five years compare as follow:
The average price per bale for the December sale this season was £ls 7s lCd, and the average per lb 10.434 d., the comparatively low realisation of £283,926 13s 2d being largely due to the smallness of the offering, 20,244 bales, and the quantity sold 18,445 bales. The average price per pound for the two Wellington sales this season is 2d above the average prices realised at New Zealand wool sales for the ten seasons prior to the current one, which are given in Dalgety’s Wool Review as follow i
