MODERN MECHANISM.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Jan. 26. The use of practically all modern mechanised war equipment, including anti-aircraft guns, was demonstrated this morning at Fort Dorset when a parade and inspection of the artillery and transport divisions were held. Included were 18-pounder guns with pneumatic-tyred wheels and drawn by the new camouflaged trucks, j This equipment arrived from Canada at tho end of December and was rapidly assembled for this display. A large gathering of the public witnessed a fine assembly of front-line fighting and transport machines. The parade was inspected by the Minister of Defence (Hon. F. Jones) and the Chief of the General Staff of the New Zealand Forces (Major-General J. E. Duigan). Also in attendance were the Mayor of Wellington (Mr T. C. A. Hislop), Hon. D. G. Sullivan, Sir Michael Myers (deputy-Governor-Gen-eral), and Colonel Standish (officer in command of the Central Military District) . A short parade in the streets was made afterwards, Mr Jones taking the salute.
A mechanised convoy of eight army trucks and vans moves to Auckland next week under the command of Major Clifton. Tho time-table is : January 27, Palmerston North, 12.45 p.m. to 2.45 p.m.; Wanganui, evening parade and demonstration, 7.30 p.m. January 28, Patea, 10.45 a.m. ; Hawera, 12.15 p.m. to 2.15 p.m. ; Stratford, later in the afternoon; New Plymouth, evening parade and demonstration, 7.30 p.m., and inspection by civic authorities.
January 29, Pio Pio, 11.45 a.m.; Te Kuiti, 12.45 p.m. to 2.45 p.m.; Otorohanga, 3.15 p.m.; Te Awamutu, 4.30 p.m.; Hamilton, evening parade, 7.30 p.m., and demonstration and inspection by the civic authorities.
