AGREEMENT REACHED.
BRICK WORKERS’ AWARD. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Jan. 26. A complete agreement was reached to-day in Conciliation Council on the application of the New Zealand Federated Brick, Tile, Pottery and Clay Workers’ Industrial Association of Workers for a new Dominion aw-ard. The Commissioner (Mr AI. J. Reardon) presided. The agreement provides for a 40hour week of five days, with provision for burners to -work 42 if required. The minimum rates of pay for adults were fixed at 2s B}d an hour, for flangers and moulders 2s 7d, for stickers 2s 6d, for setters and drawers 2s Sd, and 2s 4}d for all other workers. Youths’ wages will range from 25s to 80s a week at 20} years. The proportion of youths to adults was fixed at two to seven, but the proportion may be increased in certain circumstances. It was mutually agreed by employers and the union that statutory holidays will be observed together with, for all employees employed for 12 months, leave of four consecutive days, to be taken as far as practicable in proximity to Christmas. The new award will run for 12 months.
