MR W. M. HUGHES’S VIEWS. OBJECTION BY CONSUL. QUESTION FOR PREMIER. (United Press Association—By Electric T elegraph.—Copyright,) Received January 25, 8.5 a.m. SYDNEY, Jan. 24. Mr W. M. Hughes (Minister for External Affairs) is again at variance with the Federal Ministry, arising out of the remark he was reported to have made last week in an address to the Legacy Club, when he discussed German colonies: “Many idealists are fond of asserting that if the colonies are restored to Germany there will be world peace, but a most casual examination of world affairs shows that to be an erroneous assumption.” The Prime Minister (Mr J. A. Lyons) expressed the hope that Mr Hughes would refrain from expressing an opinion on so delicate a matter. It now appears that the German Consul (Dr Asmis) has asked the Prime Minister whether the views expressed by Mr Hughes represent his own or the Federal Ministry, of which Mr Hughes is a member. -
