PRODUCTION CEASES.

IRONWORKERS IDLE. SYDNEY, Jan. 24. Production ceased at Lysaght’s Newcastle works to-day, and 1400 idle men are casting; round for financial support from kindred unions. It is expected that the Industrial Commission will try to arrange a conference between tlie parties. A message on January 11 stated:—A wages dispute has arisen at Lysaght’s large galvanised-iron works at Newcastle, resulting in the Ironworkers’ Federation serving two weeks’ notico of intention to strike by the whole of the employees. Tho troublo originated in a new award prepared by Mr Justice Cantor of tho Industrial Commission prior to Christmas. The men declare that in many instances they are now much worse off, losing from 50s to 40s per pay, due largely to the method of calculating piecework rates.
