BISHOP DISAPPROVES.

DEAN’S 19-DAY FAST. MEMPHIS (Tennessee), Jan. 20. The case of a cleric who was personally attempting to prove man immortal on this side of the grave took a different turn when Bishop Maxon, head of the Episcopal. Diocese of Tennessee, suspended Dean Israel Noe, of the Cathedral of St. Mary here, for fasting for 19 days. Dean Noe is weak and gaunt after his long abstention, his only nourishment having been wine at Communion. He continued his offices -throughout the fast, but lost nearly 7st. in weight. He insisted throughout that he was within reach of a perfect existence on a spiritual plane of life. The bishop’s suspension declared that Dean Noe’s manner of livipgand expression of religious convictions were foreign to the views of the great majority of the membership of the Church.
