SKINS AND HIDES

AN EASIER TENDENCY. A compartivelv small offering was forward at the fortnightly sale of sheepskins, hides and tallow held yesterday by the combined Wellington brokers. The market for sheepskins was somewhat erratic, but dry skins in most cases can be quoted as being easier by id to id per lb. . A fair demand was met for hides, with an easing tendency in evidence. Medium and lightweights declined by id to 3-8 d per lb, kip and yearling by id to id per lb. The inquiry for calfskins was maintained, however, and values remained firm on last sale quotations. No quotable change was evident as for tallow. The range of prices is as follows: — Dry sheepskins.—Fine crossbred, sfd to 9d; medium crossbred, 7d to B|d; coarse crossbred, 6Jd to Bid ; half wools, sid to 7£d; quarter wools, 5d to sid; pelts, 3d to oid. Salted skins.—Pelts. Is Id; quarter wools, 2s 4d; full wools, 7s 3d; lambs, 2s 4d. Hides.—Ox, 331 b to 441 b, 4 7-8 d to s|d; 451 bto 521 b. 4 5-8 dto 7 l-8d; 531 b to 591 b, 6 l-8d to 7 5-8 d; 601 b to 691 b, o' 5-8 d to 7 7-8 d : 701 b and over, 7 7-Bd.
