DOMINION MEAT.
CRITICISM OF FARMERS. BIGGER QUOTAS ADVOCATED. LONDON, Jan. 18. Criticising New Zealand, farmers, Mr C. A. Coggan ll (president of the Na.tional Federation of Meat Trades), speaking at a dinner, said: “Instead of sending the quota promised, they refrained from killing sheep, because they found the wool more valuable” than the meat. “If that is to continue, we ought to obtain from foreign countries the meat necessary to enable our people to remain the best and cheapest ted in the whole world.
“I hope for the sake of our unemployed that when State departments see that meat shows a rise of 20 per cent, on wholesale prices since 1936, they will realise that the time has come for a substantial increase in import quotas.”
