POLICY VINDICATED.
CANADIAN BY-ELECTION. Received January 19, 10.10 a.m. MONTREAL, Jan. 18. The by-election for the St. Henry seat in Quebec resulted as follows: J. A. Bonnier (Government) 16,462 R. Houde (Tnd. Conservative) 11,949 Gingras (Ind. Liberal) 325
Majority for Bonnier 4,513 The retention of the seat is officially declared to be a of the defence policy which was attacked by Mr Houde, who alleged the existence of a secret agreement with England to supply five divisions for any war in which the Empire might be involved. Mr Houde insisted on the allegation, despite official denials.
