HOSPITAL STAFF.
EFFORT OF MATRON. Several matters affecting the nursing staff at the Palmerston North Hospital were referred to by the matron (Miss L. M. Banks) in her report to the monthly meeting of the Hospital Board, yesterday. The health of the staff was good, stated the matron who added that the following had been interviewed and medically examined, and were considered suitable applicants for the nursing staff; Misses Mason, Trewavers, Maxwell, Lean, Bealing, Burgess and Thomas. The matron recommended that they be accepted to begin training on January 20. Misses Stein and Earle had both joined the nursing staff in the last month, both having done a period of training elsewhere. The following had passed the State examination for nurses in December—Nurses Bealing, Jenkins, McLeod, Gimblett, Thyme, Grover and Williamson.
The following donations had been received at Christmas, the report proceeded: 2ZO Club, toys for Christmas tree; St. Andrew’s Girl Guides, toys; Mr Rabone, toys; Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, Christmas stocking for patients in the annexe; family of the late Miss J. N. McGhie, Christmas cakes and sweets for the children’s ward; Longhorn freezing works, a lamb; Mr Linklater. two lambs; Women’s Hospital Auxiliarv, magazines and weekly papers; Mr Ward, flowers. “All these gifts were much appreciated,” stated the report. “They contributed considerably toward making our Christnias in the Hospital a very happy one.”
