MINISTER'S HOPES. Per Press Association. TAUMARUNUI, Jan. 17. During recent months fire has ta.ken heavy toll of the Dominion’s bush, one of the most serious outbreaks being in the National Park region, where in November a bush fire affected thirtynine million board feet of timber in an area comprising one thousand acres of State forest and two thousand acres of bush held under milling rights. The salvaging of this timber l>efore it is affected by borer and other pests is giving the Commissioner of State Forects (Hon. F. Langstone) great concern. To obtain first-hand knowledge he inspected the affected areas on Saturday and expressed the opinion that, with n full measure of co-operation between the- State Forest Service and the millers, the salvage problem should be solved.
