A farmer of Aokautere experienced an unenviable time when he was driving home from the city about 3.30 o’clock yesterday morning. He had reached a point about a quarter ,of a milo beyond the Fitzherbert Bridge when flames burst through the bonnet of his car. Tlie vehicle, which whs not insured, became a total loss after the elapse of about 25 minutes. When lie returned to the 6cene of the fire to inspect the damage in daylight, he found that one of the front wheels, together with some tools and three lamp bulbs, had been unlawfully removed. The fire is attributed by the driver to petrol becoming ignited in the carburetter following a short circuit.
