OBITUARY.
The death at Palmerston North this week of Airs Bessie Orr removed a well-known former resident of the South Wairarapa district. Airs Orr was horn in ulster, Ireland, in 1859. and came out to Lyttelton in the sailing ship Lady Jocelyn as a girl. After marrying the late Air William Orr, they took up farming '’at Temuka. South Canterbury, ultimately coming to the North Island to settle at Konini, near Pahiatua, 011 a rough bush farm. Airs Orr and her husband went through all the vicissitudes of pioneering in the Forty Mile Bush, being the first farmers to make cheese in that district. Later they acquired another lnish property at Tane, Alangaone Valley, and finally took over the well-known “Platform'Farm” near Greytown. In 1920 tlicv retired from farming to live near Greytown, Airs Orr more recently being a resident of Palmerston North. For many years Airs Orr took an active part in the work ot the Presbyterian Church. She is survived bv three daughters. Airs A. AT. Suisted. Palmerston North; Airs H. Ernest. Whakatane; and Airs B. A'oung, Auckland; and four sons, Alessrs AV. J. Orr. AVhakatane: T. Orr. AVoodville; Alex Orr. Palmerston North; and H. F. Orr, Ahiaruhe, Carterton The funeral, which was attended by residents from many parts of AVairarapa. took place on Wednesday at the Grevtown cemetery, Rev. R. S. Keenan, Featherston, conducting the service.
