SENTENCE IMPOSED
REFORMATIVE DETENTION. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Aug. 19. Raymond George Kelly, postman, who admitted 25 charges dealing with the theft of postal packets, ivas sentenced to nine months’ reformative detention by Mr Justice Fair in the Supreme Court. Counsel, pleading for leniency, said that the prisoner ivas a married man, aged 34, with a wife and two children and had 20 years’ service. Gambling ivas responsible for the position he now found' himself in. Complete restitution had been made from the superannuation fund. His Honour said it was impossible to grant probation. The prisoner held a position of trust and the offences liad occurred over a period of eight months. In sentencing Kelly to nine months’ reformative detention he took into account the prisoner’s previous good character and the fact that the probation ' officer spoke highly oi him.
