ANNUAL MEETING. At the annual meeting of the Cheltenham Dairy Coy. yesterday, following the announcement of the result of the postal ballot, Mr N. C. Jensen, on behalf of Mr Dermer and himself, expressed thanks for the confidence of the suppliers in returning them to the directorate, i Mr R.. C. Hamilton also thanked those who had supported him, and expressed his congratulations to the successful candidates. The scrutineers (Messrs W. P. Bickers and E. Christian) ivere accorded a vote of thanks.
Mr S. M. Hobbs was re-elected auditor on the same basis of remuneration as last year. The directors’ fees were not altered. Discussing the balance-sheet, Mr C. Hausmann considered that tho company had done very well. It was the first year in which, fixed prices had operated, and the fact that stocks held in London did not realise the amount budgeted for was unfortunate, but was unavoidable. The company had maintained high quality and good grading. The cost of collecting material to the company was perhaps higher than for neighbouring companies, owing to the nature of the country from which the cream was collected. The manufacturing costs were regarded as most satisfactory and he congratulated Mr J. M. McDonald on the efficient manner in which lie liad managed the factory. Mr Tlievenard asked what proportion of the 900 suppliers supported the company in regard to the purchasing of manure supplies through the company. _ . Mr Desmond replied, stating that only a small number purchased through the company. The company got 2s oer ton out of manure sold. Mr Tlievenard thought that a source of revenue would be taken advantage of if suppliers all supported the company. , .... It was explained that the fertiliser could he ordered through firms and charged through the company. Mr I. McLennon recommended that the services of a veterinary surgeon should ho acquired; the cost per cow (3001 b. butterfat) was estimated at Is 4d or 11-200ths of a penny per lb. butterfat. .
Mr Wright moved that it be a recommendation that the articles of association he amended to provide that in cases where a shareholder leaves the district or dies he he paid out in full and not only 75 per cent, as at present. « Another speaker said that he was well satisfied with the present position; and he_ was a shareholder in two other companies and had not been paid anything on his shares. . Mr Wright said it was very unfair to a shareholder who was only leasing a farm. , .. ~ On being put to the meeting, the motion was defeated. Messrs P. B. Desmond (secretary), JM. McDonald (manager) and H. E. Thurston (farm manager) were accorded votes of thanks for ■their services. A subsidy of 9d per cow for herdtesting was approved. . Mr Desmond mentioned the laying of a railway siding to the factory, and stated that its operations would result in a substantial saving in time and labour, and would be well worth the expense involved in its installation. Mi; E. Sinclair reported on the operations of the company’s pig farm during the vear, showing a profit of £660. which was returned to the suppliers. Se T, enty-odd more Pjf? s pliers. The speaker thought that the farm manager had done well, n.nd lie considered that the company was fortunate in having Mr Thurston s services. • , ~, . „ At a meeting of directors following the annual meeting, Mr Dermer was appointed chairman and Mr Jensen acting-chairman.
