GIFT EVENING.

MISS NANCY PEARCE. A gift evening was held on Monday in honour of Miss Nancy Pearce, daughter of Mr and Mrs W. J. Pearce, of Palmerston North, in view of her approaching marriage to Mr R. Matthews, of Auckland. The gathering was given by Mr and Mi's E. D. Wycherley at their residence in Albert Street. Mrs Wycherley received her guests wearing a graceful frock of gold shimmer satin with jade green accessories, the guest of honour wearing navy crepe-de-chine in rose floral tonings, Mrs Pearce having chosen cherry velvet.

Spring flowers were everywhere in evidence in the drawing-room, wherein games, competitions and items were# enjoyed. In. the breakfast room, where supper was served, Iceland poppies in flame shades and bunches of balloons added to the brightness. Elocutionary items by Miss Pearce, Mrs D. East and Mrs J. Davidson contributed to the pleasure, and competition winners were Mrs East (2), Miss Grant, Messrs Lawrio and W. Waters. After supper the opportunity was taken by Mrs J. Davidson to propose the toast of the guest of thO evening, as the daughter of parents who had Von high regard in the estimation of the public, and her finnee, musical honours and cheers following. Miss Pearce and Mr Matthews re turned thanks, and Miss Pearce was later called upon to open her parcels and voiced her appreciation of the kindly thoughts of her friends and the generosity of Mr and Mrs Wycherley in giving her such a delightful party. Doth Mr Matthews and Mr Pearce endorsed these remarks. The partv terminated with “Auld Lang Syne, 5 ’ the guests then encircling Mr and Mrs Wycherley and Mr M. AVycherlcy to accord them musical honours. <* Those present were Mr and Mrs W., J. Pearce and Miss N. Pearce, Mr and, Mrs D. East, Mr and Mrs J. Davidson, Mr and Mi's Lawrie, Mi-s G. D.. Pat’tle, Misses E. Redwood, Tortenson, Spencer and Matthews, Messrs R. Matthews, Cameron, Watson, J. Penny,. J. Walsh, and M. Wycherley.
