REBEL ADVANCE.

INVASION OF SANTANDER. AGUILAR DE CAMPO, Aug. 16. After crossing the frontier of the Santander province, the rebels, under General Davila, occupied positions eight miles south-west of the important strategic point Reinosa, on the Torre la Vega road, which is also threatened by converging columns of Black Arrow detachments, aided by fighting planes, heavy bombers a.nd mountain batteries. A Navarre brigade has crowned the seven peaks commanding tbe approaches to the valley of Santander. France’s decision not to admit refugees has caused consternation among the Basque and Santander authorities, because five ships are prepared to take 10,000 refugees collected in readiness. The resumption of bombing makes the evacuation of women and children urgent.
