PRIMARY SCHOOLS
REPRESENTATIVE MATCH. The primary school representative teams of Manawatu and Horowhenua met at the Showgrounds on Saturday, the latter winning by three points to nil. The game was really a trial for the coming quadrangular tournaments ; the Manawatu boys will be playing in the Wanganui fixture and the Horowhenau boys at Levin. In the game on Saturday, neither side had a marked advantage, although Horowhenua appeared more ready to work together and handled, a little more neatly in the backs. The Manawatu forwards showed considerable promise, and although slightly heavier, this alone did not account foi their advantage. The Manawatu team is bound by a weight limit of 9 stone 91b. and an age limit of 15 years, whereas Horowhenua are limited by weight to 9st., but are not limited by age. The game proved valuable to both teams, and should enable them to add to their confidence as they ax<proach the quadrangular tournaments. The teams lined out as follow: Manawatu (green).—Ryan, _ Webb, Batchelor, James, Imrie, Robbie, Garner. Saunders, Smith, Dyer, Charles, Gates, Laird. Tuttv, Mudford.
Horowhenua (blue).- —Koliika, Cook. Tvuiti, Taylor, Tremewan, Pederson, Coley, Walker, Roach, Guide. Boyer, Staples, Fletcher, Everton, Chester. Each team made several changes during the second spell, giving other selected boys the benefit of a try-out.
There was no score in the first spell, and territorially the teams were very even. Late in the second session, however. the Horowhenua backs staged a brilliant attack as the result of which Cook scored wide out. Taylor failed to convert and thus the game ended.
