GASWORKERS’

MEN STILL OCCUPY PLANTS. MELBOURNE, Aug. 13. The 700 stay-in strikers in the West, and South Melbourne gasworks are still in possession of the plants and no move has been made either by the companies or the unions to settle the dispute. Food is being taken to the men by their wives and friends. There is no sign of disorder. Between 50 and 60 per cent, of the usual ! gas supply is being maintained by the superintendents and the companies have at least 12 weeks’ supply of coal. The trades hall disputes committee is now making efforts to involve kindred unions and extend the trouble.
