NO MORE REFUGEES
DECISION BY FRANCE. (British Official Wireless.) Received August 14, 8.5 a.in. RUGBY, Aug. 13. The French Government has informed the British Government that France is unable to accept any more Spanish refugees. There are already some 45.000 Spanish refugees on French soil and no more can be accommodated. As a number of British vessels has recently been engaged in the evacuation of refugees from Spain, the Board of Trade has informed British shipowners of the French Government’s decision.
PAYMENTS IN APPEAR. NON-INTERVENTION FINANCES. Received August 14. 9.50 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 13. Despite the Earl of Plymouth’s threat that Britain would provide no more money for the Non-Intervention Committee till the others have paid their arrears, none of the four great Powers lias yet paid up its share. The Australian Associated Press diplomatic correspondent understands that Britain is repeating the request on August 16 and probably will make a final demand. If no money is forthcoming the Ambassadors may be recalled from their holidays to consider the committee’s financial position.
SEA ENGAGEMENT. LOYALISTS AND REBELS. Received August 14, 1.5 p.m. VALENCIA, Aug. 13. The Loyalist destroyer Ciecar engaged the rebel vessels Jupiter and Ciudad de Cadiz, who were accompanied by armed rawlers, off Gijon, seriously damaging the Jupiter. The Al-um-ante Con-era arrived in the- course of the action, but was driven of! by Government reinforcements, whose protection enabled four merchantmen to steam into Gijon.
REFUGEE CHILDREN
REBELS WANT RETURN
Received August 14, 1.15 p.m. SALAMANCA, Aug. 13. The Spanish insurgents have officially protested against the continued residence abroad of Spanish refugee children, complaining in the first instance that it brands the Nationalists as tlie persecutors of children, and, secondly, that hate and lies are inculcated. An office has been created at the rebel headquarters at Burgos with the object of repatriating the children. A Barcelona message says that insurgent bombers sank the Danish ship Edith 30 nnVs from Barcelona.
