FOXTON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, Aug. 11.

At the meeting of the Foxton Borough Council Cr. T. Chaffey asked if the council had heard anything further from tho Government relative to the introduction of the housing scheme in Foxton. The clerk replied in the negative and a resolution proposed by Cr. Chaffey and seconded by tho Mayor (Mr M. E. Perreau) was carried, offering the Government a section for every house erected locally. Miss Fawoott, of the British and Foreign Bible Society, will visit Foxton next week. Mr and Mrs D. C. Bryant have returned to Foxton after an enjoyable holiday spent in Napier. There was a largo attendance of members and visitors at the monthly social afternoon of .the Presbyterian Indies' Guild. Mrs R. 0. Hornblow and Mrs W. Ogden were tho hostesses. Mrs McG. Murray (president) presided. Noval and interesting competitions were won by Mesdiirnes E. Titcombe, D. R. Barron, B. Walls, and J. Sathorley. FOXTON. Aug. 13. At (he monthly sitting of the Foxton Magistrate's Court vesterday, before Mr J. D. Stout, S.M., G. A. Aldridge was charged with the theft of 18 White Leghorn fowls valued at £7 13s, the property of Mr A. K. Field, of Avenue Hoad. Defendant was represented by Mr M. B. Bergin and entered a plea of guilty, electing to bo dealt with summarily. Constable Owen said that whilo Mr Field was absent the fowls were stolen and traced to accused's possession. Accused's record was not good. lie was a relief worker and had a big car. Mr Bergin said accused was 27 years of age and had a wife and family of seven young children. Defendant will have to be (aught a Jesson. lie will be sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labour. The representatives of the Foxton High School Old Pupils' Ping Pong Club had a decisivo victory over the teams from the Beach Club. The scores were Foxton A 22 games, Beach A 3; Foxton B 19 games, Beach B 6.
