(From Our Own Correspondent,) EKETAHUNA, Aug. 12.
Mrs Payne has returned to her home at Palmerston North after visiting Mrs J. Davie, Rongonmi. Mr J. Evans and Mr I. Fuoton have loft on a motor tour of the North Island. Mr 0. 11. Cooper has returned home after a holiday in Wellington. Miss B. Thompson, Rongomai, is spending a holiday in Wanganui. Mrs Butler, Wellington, has been tfro guest of Mr and Mrs fi. Evans. Misses Joyce and Aureen Ilodgins, Tane, have returned to Wellington. Mr Colin Edwards, Wellington has been staying with his sister, Mrs L. Eagle. Mr and Mrs C. T. Richardson, will shortly leave Rongomai to take up their residence at Hamua. Mr A Spring is an inmate of the Pahiatuu Hospital. Mr N. Kendall, who recently underwent an operation in a Pahiauta hospital, is progressing satisfactorily. Mr A. Stowart who has been in tho Masterton Hospital for some time, lias returned to his home. The basketball match between teams from Seatoun and the Eketabuna School was. won by the visitors, 11—6. Prior to leaving Nireaha to take up their residence in Wellington, Mrs S. J. Cooper and Miss Doris Cooper were the recipients of presentations by members of St. Mary’s Churcli and friends.
Mrs A. S. Carter presided over a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute. It was decided to enter for the potato-growing contest for the Crewe Rosebowl. The secretary (Mrs Schormann) read a report of the Dominion Federation meeting. Mrs Macky, M.A., gave a nature talk. A woollen crochet competition resulted: Mrs Fraser 1, Mrs Baucke 2,' Mrs Schormann 3. The flower competition resulted: Mrs Oliver 1, Mrs Fraser 2, Mrs Carter 3. Miss Berenice Maxine Lowry, only daughter of Mr and Mrs R. Y. Lowry, Lower Hutt, was married at St. Jamos’s Church. Lower Hutt, to Albert Louvain, youngest son of Mr and Mrs George Judd. Tane. Rev. X'. E. Winhall, Piiminerton, performed the ceremony and tho music was played bv Miss B. B. Harle. In attendance on the bride wore Miss Rita Goodie and Miss Sybil Lowry. Tho best man was Mr R. Richards, Masterton, and Mr C. Judd was groomsman. Mr and Alra A. L. Judd will make their future home at Tajie. The matrons’ and spinsters’ bail at Rongokokako was woll patronised. Extra dances were supplied by Alias Perry and Mr N. Coopor. Novelty dances were won by Miss Broadbent and Mr J. Sigvertscn and Airs AfcAnulty and Air 13. Aiinnett. Alisa B. Curry is at Linton as tho guest of Airs A. J. Curry. The death lias occurred in Sydney of Airs Louisa Jackson, daughter of Alia Petersen and the late Air H. Pctoreen, Ploekvillo. Mr A. L. C. Wilson, first assistant at tho Napier Intermediate School, has been appointed headmaster at the local District Higli School. At tlie monthly meeting of tho Ekctahuim County Council, Cr. J. B. Carruthors presided. The bank certificate showed county fund account dr. £4,659 5s lOd: bridge loan, cr., £7725 2a 3d. It was decided to reduce rental of the reserve at Nireaha from £l4 to £l2. It was decided to grade and metal a section of it private roau for the Alfrcdton School Committee at cost, plus 5 per cent. It was decided that, slope be taken for the erection of a house at 1
Alfrcdton. A resolution wa<? parsed constituting gorsa a noxious weed. The Haniua Hall was a popular rendezvous lor the Black and White Championship Jiall hold by the Haniua Football Club. The M.C.\s were Messre J. Davio and M. Spring. Novellv dances went to Miss J. Ryan and Mr J. Brady and to Miss ScarancUe and partner. ~Mv H. J. Smith presented the trophies.
